June 4, 2024: Training 1 “Measuring Carbon in Soil under Miscanthus” (Part 1)
On June 4, 2024, Training 1 “Measuring Carbon in Soil under Miscanthus” (Part 1) was organized and provided at UJEP in the combined form. Altogether 24 individuals (members of the teams and potential end-users) participated in the Training, from those 9 individuals were in person at UJEP and 15 individuals participated remotely.
Professor Zeljka Zgorelec, PhD, Division for Agroecology, Department of General Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zagreb, Croatia (Linkage Institution) and Assoc. Prof. Nikola Bilandzija, PhD, Division of Agricultural Engineering, Department of Mechanization and Autonomous System in Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zagreb, Croatia (Linkage Institution) were the distinguished Trainers.
The Training had a goal to educate young researchers and PhD students from the participated universities in modern approaches for measuring the carbon balance, to introduce the analytical methods and current equipment permitted to measure the content of carbon in the soil and plant’s biomass. Prof. Zgorelec and Dr. Bilandzija delivered lectures and shared their experiment in evaluation the carbon sequestration due to growing of the different energy crops.
The Training consisted of three parts:
1. Theory. Soil Carbon and Agriculture.
2. Practice. Analytical methods for soil carbon determination.
3. Implementation. Technical & energy potential of biomass and Carbon balance in the soil.
Beside the lectures there was an interactive part where participants discussed how the knowledge they gained can be implemented in the project G6094. Participants in the Training received certificates.
