July 15-19, 2024: Participation of Co-Director Dr. Tatyana Stefanovska in CEECHE (Thessaloniki, Greece)
Dr. Tatyana Stefanovska, Co-Director of NULES, Ukraine participated in the Central and Eastern European Conference on Health and the Environment (CEECHE) in Thessaloniki, Greece, July 15–19, 2024. The event brought together scientists, practitioners, educators, and students from seventeen countries to discuss questions on environmental exposures and disease risks and to find a possible solution.
CEECHE is a collaborative effort of US and European organizations to enable the scientific community to identify the intricate universal connections between environmental factors and health on a global scale. CEECHE aims to facilitate scientific discourse that is conceptualized and results in solutions to enhance public health in the area.
The conference started on Monday, 15th with a Fulbright Scholars Panel and a pre-conference workshop “Human Health Risk Assessment”. Over the next few days, eight plenary sessions along with the poster session were accomplished on understanding the complex environmental exposures including from the military actions and effect on human health and the environment.
Dr. Tatyana Stefanovska presented the poster report “The Remediation approach for reducing exposure risks from the postmilitary sides: case of Kyiv region, Ukraine”, co-authored by prof. Valentina Pidlisnyuk, UJEP, NPD, M.Sc. Artem Medkov and M.Sc. Kateryna Mozgova, NULES. The presented materials were observed by Dr. Evangeliu Manoli and Angeliki Makiogka (University of Thessaloniki, Greece); Dr. Ruslana Iskra and Dr. Olha Lytvycjenko (Ukraine); Dr. Kelly G. Pennel (Director of Superfund at the University of Kentucky, USA); Dr. L’ubica Agralasova (Comenius University, Slovakia); Dr. Eugene Gurzau (Babes-Bolyai University, Romania); Jose’ G. Velascosoltero (U.S. Air Force, USA). The potential partnership with Dr. Velascosoltero, the US Air Force within NATO G6094 was discussed.
While participating in the conference’s meetings and minutes, Dr. Stefanovska discussed options for future cooperation with members of US EPA Dr. Jonn McKerna and Dr. Souhail al-Abed. She overviewed the points of scientific and educational interests with Dr. Slavo Lomnicky (University of Louisiana, USA), Dr. Dimitra Lambropouow (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece), Dr. Kelly G. Pennel (University of Kentucky, USA) and Dr. Konstantinos Markis (Cyprus University of Technology, Greece).
